The Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust

The Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust is a fund independent of the City Council set up to support good causes of all kinds in Aberdeen. It was founded in 1999, by then Lord Provost Dr Margaret Farquhar CBE, with the aim of aiding small City groups and charitable concerns.

Organisations to have received grants include MS Society Aberdeen, Marie Curie, UCAN, Grampian Carers Support Project, Torry Youth Café and Grampian Hospital Radio.

A number of popular events have raised funds for the Trust such as the Walkathon, Three Club Golf Tournament and the Swimathon. Corporate and personal donations also contribute significantly to the fund.

The fund is governed by a board of Trustees, including the Lord Provost, and assisted by an Advisory Committee - including representatives from The Burgesses of Guild, The Seven Incorporated Trades and members of the local business community. The trust meets regularly throughout the year to consider applications and discuss fundraising opportunities.

A message from the Lord Provost

I am very proud to be continuing the important work of the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust. The nature of the Trust allows us to support small City charities who fall outside the scope of other funding bodies, whilst also giving us the opportunity to focus on specific issues.

We have a variety of fundraising events and activities planned for this year. These are designed to give as many people as possible the chance to get involved in raising money for the Trust and I look forward to your support.

- Lord Provost Peter J Stephen, MCIBS
